Alden Ehrenreich is Perfect for Young Han Solo!

We’ve got a new Han Solo!

With all that Hollywood does wrong with pushing unoriginal and uninspiring content, I’m glad Disney knows what they are doing beyond most Pixar movies and the likes of the magical “Zootopia.” Casting is everything in a movie and it is serious business with selecting actors to play iconic characters in “Star Wars” movies. The Internet will explode when nostalgia is tinkered with even slightly (the bro-y, anti-Ghostbusters rage comes to mind).

The news broke last night that Alden Ehrenreich has been chosen to play young Han Solo in the upcoming anthology series. The movie is slated to open in theaters May 25, 2018. It will be written by, , the writer of “The Empire Strike Back” with directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller (“21 Jump Street, The Lego Movie”) already on board.  This is an accomplishment in itself because the Hollywood Reporter confirmed that 2500 actors auditioned for the role. Dave Franco, Miles Teller, and Scott Eastwood (Clint’s son) were rumored to be strongly considered.

For those of you who were unfamiliar with Alden Ehrenreich, he began to make a name for himself in 2013’s “Beautiful Creatures.” He had smaller roles in indie movies including Woody Allen’s Oscar winning “Blue Jasmine.” This year, he had a breakout role in the Coen Brothers comedy “Hail, Caesar!” which disappointed at the box office and divided fans of the beloved, auteur filmmakers. In fact, you probably walked past auditoriums showing this movie when you went into  Deadpool in theaters. (Actually, I saw many people walking past auditoriums showing “Hail, Caesar!” for “Deadpool” while polling a third movie.)

Alden Ehrenreich is classic Hollywood. He earned this role. Alden has an engaging presence while projecting talent on screen. Doing comedy and drama while reacting perfectly, he is a versatile actor. Roger Ebert compared him to the next Leonardo DiCaprio. Enjoy this clip of him delivering banter with Ralph Fiennes in “Hail, Caesar!” which personifies this description. The Coen Brothers latest will be available next month for home viewing:

What do you think of this choice for a young Han Solo?
