Review: ‘Blade Runner 2049’ Matches the Original

Is “Blade Runner” and robots Halloween enough? Eh, who cares? This came out during October during my Halloween articles and it wasn’t a film I was about to pass up reviewing. Now here’s the thing about this sequel Sony has been very hush-hush on details of the plot, which is good. With that in mind I’ve decided so as not to upset anyone reading I am going to put all of the points about the SPOILER aspects of the story that I want to discuss on a separate page. So if you click on the next page to read the SPOILERS don’t say that I didn’t warn you.

Review: ‘The Mummy’ Kicks Off Dark Universe With a Resounding “Meh..”

“The Mummy” is one of those weird franchises. The original “Mummy” film from the 30s is considered a classic. Although it’s not terribly interesting. It’s a total rip-off of the original “Dracula” just with a Mummy played by Boris Karloff instead of a vampire by Bela Lugosi. All the iconic images of the film are in the 1st third and not representative of the rest. The sequels are where most of what popular culture knows of “The Mummy” comes from. Then, there is the remake series in the 90s starring Brendan Fraser (btw I’m shocked how many people are still so attached to that version) which made a lot of money, but I don’t think even the fans would really call a great film. Also, it’s completely different from the original. But how does this new remake stand on its own?

Review: ‘Dig Two Graves’ Is An Impressive Debut For Hunter Adams

“Dig Two Graves” seems to be the little independent horror film that could. It tells the story of a girl named Jake who after her brother dies in a tragic accident is met by a mysterious figure who offers her the chance to bring him back. However it is at a horrible cost. As the characters, especially Jake’s grandfather the Sheriff try to unravel the mystery more of the family bloody history reveals itself.

‘Beauty and the Beast’ Isn’t A Great Remake But Pretty Darn Close

The original “Beauty and the Beast” often has a special place in the hearts of Disney fans and considered by many to be the best piece of animation the studio has ever produced (including yours truly) and has been revered at a level that “Cinderella,” “The Jungle Book,” and “Sleeping Beauty” have never quite been able to achieve. Naturally, that leaves the “Beauty and the Beast” remake with some massive shoes to fill and while it doesn’t quite achieve that feat, they manage to come surprisingly close.

Review: “Fist Fight” Is A Morally Confused Mess

“Fist Fight” is something I somehow seemed to miss in terms of all the marketing, so I honestly had no idea what to expect. Still I tried to give it a fair shot. It didn’t exactly work out for me. This is the sort of film I can see being divided clearly across lines of critics and “normal” viewers. Only time will tell with that, but until then let me try my best to explain why “Fist Fight” didn’t work for me.

Review: ‘The Birth Of A Nation’ Powerfully Reclaims Turner’s Rebellion

Arriving after its rapturous Sundance premiere, record breaking acquisition with Fox Searchlight, strong (though waning) Oscar buzz, and plenty of controversy with the director’s past actions and current statements, Nate Parker’s “The Birth of a Nation” FINALLY opens in theaters across the country this weekend! It takes place in a familiar antebellum South for this pre-Civil War era, “The Birth of a Nation” follows Nat Turner (Nate Parker), a literate slave and preacher, whose financially struggling owner, Samuel Turner (Armie Hammer), accepts an offer to use Nat’s preaching to subdue unruly slaves by reading pro-slavery scripture passages.
