Margot Robbie is getting her own Harley Quinn featured spinoff film!

With Suicide Squad right around the corner, many have been curious about the affect of its popularity and potential spinoff films. Today we got our first confirmation of a character featured film and that film will star Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn but also feature many other female characters.

This film is said to be entirely female-oriented with a focus not only on villains, but heroes as well. Harley Quinn is the first confirmed character in the film but there have also been talks of Batgirl and the Birds of Prey as well.

But in an interesting twist, the project is not a Quinn solo movie. Rather, it would focus on several of DC’s female heroes and villains.

Details are being closely guarded but names such as Batgirl and Birds of Prey have surfaced, although in what capacity, it’s not clear. Warner Bros. isn’t commenting.

It’s not surprising that Warner Bros. would move towards a film centered around Harley Quinn. She is arguably the most anticipated character to see in “Suicide Squad” with the other anticipated character being the Joker played by Jared Leto. But while she may be gaining fan momentum, my guess is that Warner Bros. will be carefully choosing what other women characters to meet fan expectations.

There may be some ties to a DC line of comics and products called DC Superhero Girls geared towards a younger female audience. If the film establishes its roots from this source then we can speculate the possibility a few prominent characters in that series making their way to the big screen. Harley Quinn, Batgirl, Poison Ivy, Katana (other Suicide Squad member) and Bumblebee are all possible choices for this female-led film.

Currently the project is in very early stages. We will provide more details once they unfold.

Who do you think should be in this female-centric DC film?

This was first reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
