After Leonardo DiCaprio won an Oscar, many Millennial movie fans have cited Mr. Gyllenhaal as the young and talented actor overdue for a win. I couldn’t agree more. I first noticed his acting ability alongside Laura Dern and Chris Cooper in the historical space drama “October Sky” (which was a family favorite in the Miles household).

This should provide cat nip for fans of the auteur director and talented actors. The autumn season tend to bring audiences both award contenders and horror movies so why not have both in one movie? It makes sense! Starring a cast of accomplished actors including Jennifer Lawrence, Javier Bardem, Michelle Pfeiffer and Ed Harris, “mother!” opens wide September 15th.

Directed by Luca Guadagnino ("A Bigger Splash," "I Am Love"), the gay romance set in 1980's Italy stars Timothée Chalamet, Armie Hammer, and Michael Stuhlbarg. I had the pleasure to watch this poignant, tender, and soul stirring movie at this year's Sundance Film Festival. The emotionally resonate drama is a masterpiece of romantic cinema for viewers regardless of their sexual orientation.

“Baby Driver” rocked the Paramount Theatre during its world premiere at the SXSW Film Festival on Saturday. The fanfare was greeted with loud laughter and raucous, spontaneous applause during its running time. Sony released the trailer to a movie afterwards that has been described as a “British-American comedy action crime musical film written and directed by Edgar Wright.” The trailer accurately reflects the movie without spoiling big laughs nor amusing action sequences. Consider this a "full-length teaser."

Denzel Washington directed and stars in the adaptation of August Wilson’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play, which centers on a black garbage collector named Troy Maxson in 1950s Pittsburgh. Bitter that baseball’s color barrier was only broken after his own heyday in the Negro Leagues, Maxson is prone to taking his frustration out on loved ones. Both Washington and co-star Viola Davis won Tony’s for their performances in the 2010 revival of the play. Stephen Henderson, Jovan Adepo, Russell Hornsby, and Mykelti Williamson round out the supporting cast.
