Top 5 Unaired Saturday Night Live Sketches

With countless sketches tucked under it’s burgeoning waistband, “Saturday Night Live” has appealed to the late night sensibilities of fans over multiple decades.

With that said, of those countless sketches, only a few stand out as memorable and even fewer as quotable. It is also no question that some gifted writers from Chevy Chase to Conan O’Brien to Mike O’Brien (hmm, two O’Briens… that’s interesting) have fueled the chuckle conjuring antics, but even the most gifted writers are still confined to the time and social relevance of a weekly time slot. Well that got us thinking (and let me tell you, it HURT!). Relative to those sketches that made it, how many sketches got left behind on the cutting room floor. More importantly, which of those sketches are like lost comedic messages bottled and set adrift in a turbulent ocean of media. Just like Chris Pratt’s recent “Jason Statham’s Jason SteakUms,” so many unaired SNL treasures are waiting to be discovered.

Without further ado (and further breathy prose), here are the top 5 unaired “Saturday Night Live” sketches:

5. Nasim Pedrad as Aziz Ansari

Most recognizable for her rendition of the vapid vixen and bride of Yeezus Kim Kardashian, Nasim Pedrad has an arsenal of un-orthodox impersonations that she was aching to give airtime. During an interview with Conan O’Brien, Pedrad said the following about her creative experience working with the sketch-comedy maestro Lorn Michaels and his production team.

The producers were always like, ‘Hey, what about this week you play a pretty gal?’ and I was always like, ‘Or, what if I play another small man?’

Oddly enough this beautiful comedienne desperately wanted to portray … Aziz Ansari? In this snippet of comedic gold, Pedrad proficiently channels Ansari and makes fans wanna scream “RAAAAAANNNNNDDYYYYYY!” [Cue air horns].

4. Mike O’Brien in “The Kids” ft. Jim Carrey

In this commitment phobic sketch, Mike O’Brien’s character finds himself in a Apocalypse of… Pediatric proportions? After culminating what appears to be a dinner with the girlfriend’s parents, who are so sappy they give trees diabetes, Mike departs with a kiss and a set date for a future rendezvous. When exponentially increasing hordes of rabid children begin pursuing him through the city streets, O’Brien finds himself cornered. There he stumbles upon other men (Jim Carrey and Bobby Moynihan) hopelessly ensconced in the clutches of commitment. The only way out… well… Watch the sketch below to find out!

2. Bill Hader in “The Gossipy Coal Miner”

Bill Hader has had no shortage of outrageous characters during his time with Saturday Night Live. Most notably, fans of SNL likely best remember Hader for his ultra-hip New York City underground club expert and frequent guest of Seth Myer’s “Weekend Update,” Stefan. Well in this comedic nugget that was left on the cutting room floor due to an alleged shortage of airtime, we find yet another off-beat Hader-creation. Remember, no secret is safe once Hader’s Levar catches wind of it.

1. Aidy Bryant in “10,000th Tweet”

When Rebecca (Aidy Bryant) sends her 10,000th tweet, a spectacular cacophony of ridiculousness ensues. In this “Cut for time” sketch, the audience embarks on a musical odyssey featuring praises from Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg (Kate McKinnon “Ghostbusters“), POTUS Barack Obama (yes, the REAL Barack Obama… okay I’m Lying it’s Jay Pharroh), the All Mighty Maker, God (Woody Harrelson) and a passionate kiss from the real Edward Norton (honest). You know, the typical crowd that applauds the trivial usage of social media.

Pooya: Since his wee lad-dom, Pooya has been a sommelier of cinema. It was likely some acting bug, fallen from the dust riddled ruby curtains of an enchanted old stage that did it. Those cinematic scarabs must have burrowed deep into his brain, irreversibly altering his mind, turning the poor boy down a dismal path. From his earliest years the strange boy would aimlessly wander the aisles of countless video rental stores, amassing his trivial knowledge with vigor. These actions befuddled the boy’s parents, who still would lovingly oblige his unusual attraction to the motion picture. Often seeking refuge in the cushioned seating of his local movie theater, the odd adolescent would immerse himself in the scripted and effects riddled realities unfolding on the screen before him. During his collegiate years, he was twice spotted on stage performing bizarre theatrical rituals before awe-struck audiences. When he departed from academia, he left behind his youth in exchange for a labor routine, but the strange young man never lost his long-cultivated love of film. Recently, Pooya was approached by FilmFad.com to join their budding team of entertainment bloggers. After hours of coaxing and an undisclosed number of honey jars, he accepted their offer. Finally he had come full circle. Finally, at FilmFad.com, he was home.
