Netflix Is Moving To Offline Viewing Of Its Content

Netflix users get excited! You will soon be able to stream offline!

While they’ve said in the past that offline viewing isn’t an interest, Netflix suddenly changed their tune. In a press release today, the streaming service announced that users would now be able to download content for viewing while not connected to the internet. The update is available today but the content is currently limited.

“Netflix members worldwide can now download in addition to stream great series and films at no extra cost. While many members enjoy watching Netflix at home, we’ve often heard they also want to continue their Stranger Things binge while on airplanes and other places where Internet is expensive or limited. Just click the download button on the details page for a film or TV series and you can watch it later without an internet connection.

The new feature is included in all plans and available for phones and tablets on Android and iOS.

To start downloading today, please update your Netflix app to the most recent version and take us with you to enjoy Netflix everywhere you go. If you have any questions, please visit our Help Center.”

– Eddy Wu, Director of Product Innovation

As expected, Netflix exclusives will be the headlining content. From viewing the available content myself, it looks like most (if not all) of the Netflix originals are available for offline viewing. Surprisingly there are quite a few other titles as well outside of the “Netflix original” realm. I’m not sure about the disparity between streaming only and offline content available but the difference does seem minimal. So far the amount of offline content is vast from a surface-level view.

What titles will you be viewing offline? Tell us in the comments below how this changes your Netflix viewing experience!

Ryan: Ryan has been fascinated with film and pop culture since childhood. Throughout college he "played it safe" taking the more lucrative route of being a computer programmer while squeezing in film related courses where he could...but even during his post college career, he could never escape his true passion. After following one of his favorite blogs for a long time, he approached the site's Editor about writing and they reluctantly gave him a shot. He later became their Senior Writer which led to a variety of other projects, radio show appearances, features, and high profile celebrity interviews. Despite his success with blogging, he still wanted more so in order to expand his creative addiction, he merged his IT skills and blogging know-how to create FilmFad.com which has continued to grow into a creative Mecca of pop-culture fun and integrity.   ryan@filmfad.com    Film Fad
