How Marvel is Erasing X-Men to Make Room for Inhumans

Marvel is making a move to take out the X-Men.

Marvel may be taking another jab at Fox with their latest move. Similar to their previous move with Fantastic Four, this time their “X-Men” comic books could be on the chopping block.

While they haven’t necessarily called for a cancellation of the series, they are clearly making a power play in their latest comic book storyline involving the Inhumans and the X-Men. The story involves the discovery of mutants having toxic reaction to the “Terrigen Mists.” For those that do not know, the “Terrigen Mist” is the catalyst that awakens the power and abilities within the Inhumans. The cover of the issue involving this story depicts the X-Men surrounded in a shroud of green mist which is foreshadowing their potential demise. The “Extraordinary X-Men” cover that shows the X-Men in the dire situation is a preview and will follow closely after the “Secret Wars” story arc that is currently running. As previously stated, it is unclear as to how far this story will develop, but it is an obvious attempt at showing who Marvel’s new starting lineup will be.

With an “Inhumans” film on the way, it is no surprise that Marvel would make this move. In fact, it’s a long time coming. Marvel and Fox have continually had issues when it comes to playing nice and I don’t foresee there being peace in the near future. Hopefully Marvel will have enough sense to not destroy a legacy just because of some bitter cinematic rivalry. Maybe they’ll even find a way to redefine some of the X-Men as Inhumans like they did with Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch.

What do you think will be the fate of the X-Men? Is this just another story arc or a means to an end?
