Nintendo Switch Buyers Beware, Stock Memory Won’t Support Some Games

The Nintendo Switch stock memory is officially not suitable for all games.

The Nintendo Switch is almost here but for those looking for the bare bones setup, it may not be good to go out of the box. As we already know, the stock memory is limited, but the assumption was that it could at least handle any individual game. Based on new reports, the game “Dragon Quest Heroes 1 & 2” will surpass the memory limit being 32GB itself. While the Switch does have 32GB standard, over 6GB of that space is allocated for system installs.

“Dragon Quest Heroes 1 & 2 is a 32 GB download, which is exactly the amount of on-board memory that comes with Nintendo’s new console. Set aside 6.1 GB for the Switch’s operating system and other software and there’s no way to fit this on the console itself. Dragon Quest Heroes 1 & 2 launches with the Switch on March 3 in Japan; it hasn’t yet been dated for the west.”

This may not be critical news for many buyers as many know the limitations of the stock memory. “The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild” takes up 13.4 GB of storage space and with it being an essential launch game, many were probably preparing to expand their memory either immediately or shortly after purchase.

For those planning on waiting to expand their Nintendo Switch memory, here are the sizes of a few of the games scheduled for release:

  • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe: 7 GB
  • Snipperclips: Cut It Out, Together: 1.6 GB
  • Disgaea: 5: 5.92 GB
  • Puyo Puyo Tetris: 1.09 GB
  • I Am Setsuna: 1.4 GB
  • Nobunaga’s Ambition: 5 GB
