‘Mario Kart 8 Deluxe’ Boasts 8 Player Local Multiplayer In New Trailer

“Mario Kart 8 Deluxe” focuses on appealing multiplayer features in the latest trailer.

For us classic gamers out there, multiplayer wasn’t always online. “Mario Kart 8 Deluxe” focuses on those roots with the Nintendo Switch in its latest trailer. There can be up to 4 people on one TV for split screen and up to 8 for local play. Take a look at the new trailer below.

The 4 player split screen is self explanatory. You get the classic feel of 4 people sitting around a television that’s split into 4 quadrants. The local play aspect is a kind of “pseudo online” multiplayer. People with the Nintendo Switch can pair up to 8 consoles together for simultaneous multiplayer. For 3DS owners, you’re probably already familiar with this form of multiplayer. It’s essentially running an ad hoc network (local decentralized network) where everyone in your immediate vicinity can join.

This is one area where Nintendo continually thrives. I’ve noticed more and more people getting back into board games and rejecting the isolation of online gaming. This could be a major selling point for the Nintendo Switch and I’m even more excited for “Mario Kart 8 Deluxe” now.
