‘Indiana Jones 5’ Will Continue Crystal Skull Story

Harrison Ford will reprise his role as Indiana Jones and pick up where they left off in the story.

While fans may be excited for Harrison Ford playing Indiana Jones again, they may not be so thrilled with where the story is going. In a recent interview with Producer Frank Marshall, it was discovered that not only will Harrison Ford continue to be the iconic character, but the next film will continue the story from the arguably worst film in the franchise.

Marshall said the next “Jones” installment will not be a prequel but a continuation of the story from where it left off with “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” in 2008. Disney announced the new film last month, setting its release for July 19, 2019.

With Disney acquiring the rights to “Indiana Jones,” many were expecting future films to distance themselves from “Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.” While Harrison Ford was still well received as the character, many were very disappointed with the last film and blamed George Lucas for its shortcomings. Marshall’s words could be geared more towards maintaining continuity but the last Indiana Jones film is a touchy subject for many.

More than likely there is little to worry about when it comes to “Indiana Jones 5.” Many “Star Wars” fans consider the prequels to be an utter abomination but they still remain as part of the overall story. A continuation of “Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” for “Indiana Jones 5” could just mean that they are acknowledging the storyline but not using it as a backbone. Even the worst films have some good elements to pull from and that may be what we get for the next Indiana Jones film.

What do you think of this continuance? Is this just a way of maintaining canon for the film?
