The X-Files returns to Fox in January 2016

Mulder and Scully will return to “The X-Files” in January 2016!

“The truth is out there” and that truth is that Fox is bringing back one of its most successful television series. In a press release today, Fox revealed that actors David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson will return to their roles as Fox Mulder and Dana Scully for “The X-Files” premiere on January 24, 2016. The premiere will be a two-night event running from January 24th to January 25th. Take a look at the official press release below.

The next mind-bending chapter of THE X-FILES debuts with a special two-night event beginning Sunday, Jan. 24 (10:00-11:00 PM ET/7:00-8:00 PM PT), following the NFC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME, and continuing with its time period premiere on Monday, Jan. 25 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT). The thrilling, six-episode event series, helmed by creator/executive producer Chris Carter and starring David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson as FBI Agents FOX MULDER and DANA SCULLY, marks the momentous return of the Emmy- and Golden Globe Award-winning pop culture phenomenon, which remains one of the longest-running sci-fi series in network television history.

“The X-Files” is one of the most popular sci-fi television series of all time and definitely a gem among Fox programming. While it spawned two very unsuccessful films that were 10 years apart, the fanbase for the television series has remained constant. Even fellow actors David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson have kept a special place in their hearts for “The X-Files.” While making appearances at conventions for the fans, they’ve also both expressed interest in making another run at “The X-files” in either TV or film.

While another film seems to be off the table at the moment, the television series is officially coming back. Even if there is still a fanbase and the cast is on board, does that still equate to success? As previously mentioned, the films were essentially a flop and the story has been drawn out much longer than expected. If this series is going to reach the younger part of that essential 18-35 demographic, they’re going to have to revitalize the series to accommodate for this generation. If this generation doesn’t latch on, then hopefully the loyal fans will be enough to keep the series alive. I know I’ll be watching, I just hope everyone else will be.

Will you be watching “The X-Files” in 2016?
