Disney Live Action ‘Mulan’ Remake Gets a Release Date

‘Mulan’ set to be released in late 2018

Last year when Disney was fresh off the success of “Cinderella (2015),” the studio began developing remakes on many of their beloved classics, with “Mulan” being among them.  Little news was given about the remake after the initial report but now Disney has officially announced that a live-action remake of the 1998 animated film will be released on November 2, 2018.

Jason Reed, Chris Bender and Jake Weiner will work as the film’s producers and the script will be written by Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver whose screenwriting credits include the two latest “Planet of the Apes” movies and “Jurassic World.” There is currently no word on who will star in or direct the film but it’s a safe bet that those announcements will be coming in the next few months.

It’s been no secret that Disney has been putting a lot of focus on live-action remakes these last few years and with the massive successes of “Maleficent,” “Cinderella (2015)” and “The Jungle Book (2016),” the studio has no reason to slow down.  Next on their list of live-action remakes will be the highly anticipated “Beauty and the Beast” which will be released to theaters March 17, 2017.

The original “Mulan” based on the Chinese legend of Hua Mulan was released back in 1998 (18 years ago in case you weren’t feeling old enough today) during the tail end of the Disney Renaissance.  The film would go on to gross over $300 million worldwide and naturally spawned a direct-to-DVD sequel.

Will “Mulan” continue Disney’s live-action winning streak?

This was first reported by Variety
