Christian Bale and Natalie Portman’s Knight of Cups First Trailer

The trailer below fills me with anticipation for the February 2015 release of “Knight of Cups” starring Christian Bale, Natalie Portman, and Cate Blanchett.  With a combined 4 Oscar wins between the lead actors of the film it will undoubtedly be well acted.  Director Terrance Malik, best known for writing and directing “The Thin Red Line,” has received nomination nods in the past, and from this film’s trailer it looks as if he has crafted a movie worth making a move for even more recognition.

Much has been kept well under wraps about the film including plot points and posters and it appears as this may be the case even as the release of the film nears.  IMDB’s only description as of yet is “A man, temptations, celebrity, and excess.”  My best guess is that Bale, who has much experience for such roles after playing Patrick Bateman and Bruce Wayne, will play a character immersed in an almost “Wolf of Wall Street-ish” world.  The themes I gather most from the quickly cut scenes of the trailer are water and flying, which can lead much to interpretation.  The title “Knight of Cups” is likely in reference to the tarot card of the same name.  Google gives many interpretations of the card’s meaning, but the best I can tell is the card can represent romance, charm, and imagination; and when reversed can also mean unrealistic, jealousy, and moodiness.  So with the tarot interpretation of the title we still have more questions than answers.  The only thing for certain is that I will eagerly await the release of a very promising appearing film.

Mike: Mike has spent nearly all his life amassing education, degrees, and most of all overwhelming student debt. And none of it has had to do with film. Minus one film class in college, the only experience he has with film is personal exposure due to sheer enjoyment and entertainment. He writes for FilmFad.com partly because of this interest in film, but mostly because he is so narcissistic that he gains great joy from hearing his own opinions. Now that his family and close friends are tired of hearing his opinions he desires to venture out to exhaust new venues with his overly-analytic and trite commentary. Hopefully he finds some success in such blogging, if not, the orderlies will have a lot of writing to clean off of these padded walls.
