Is "Blade Runner" and robots Halloween enough? Eh, who cares? This came out during October during my Halloween articles and it wasn't a film I was about to pass up reviewing. Now here's the thing about this sequel Sony has been very hush-hush on details of the plot, which is good. With that in mind I've decided so as not to upset anyone reading I am going to put all of the points about the SPOILER aspects of the story that I want to discuss on a separate page. So if you click on the next page to read the SPOILERS don't say that I didn't warn you.

"The Mummy" is one of those weird franchises. The original “Mummy” film from the 30s is considered a classic. Although it's not terribly interesting. It's a total rip-off of the original “Dracula” just with a Mummy played by Boris Karloff instead of a vampire by Bela Lugosi. All the iconic images of the film are in the 1st third and not representative of the rest. The sequels are where most of what popular culture knows of “The Mummy” comes from. Then, there is the remake series in the 90s starring Brendan Fraser (btw I'm shocked how many people are still so attached to that version) which made a lot of money, but I don't think even the fans would really call a great film. Also, it's completely different from the original. But how does this new remake stand on its own?

"Dig Two Graves" seems to be the little independent horror film that could. It tells the story of a girl named Jake who after her brother dies in a tragic accident is met by a mysterious figure who offers her the chance to bring him back. However it is at a horrible cost. As the characters, especially Jake's grandfather the Sheriff try to unravel the mystery more of the family bloody history reveals itself.

The original “Beauty and the Beast” often has a special place in the hearts of Disney fans and considered by many to be the best piece of animation the studio has ever produced (including yours truly) and has been revered at a level that “Cinderella,” “The Jungle Book,” and “Sleeping Beauty” have never quite been able to achieve. Naturally, that leaves the “Beauty and the Beast” remake with some massive shoes to fill and while it doesn’t quite achieve that feat, they manage to come surprisingly close.

“Fist Fight" is something I somehow seemed to miss in terms of all the marketing, so I honestly had no idea what to expect. Still I tried to give it a fair shot. It didn't exactly work out for me. This is the sort of film I can see being divided clearly across lines of critics and "normal" viewers. Only time will tell with that, but until then let me try my best to explain why "Fist Fight" didn't work for me.

"Hidden Figures" is a powerful film about a powerful (and sadly still relevant) subject matter. From the directing to the acting the film really makes you feel all the highs and lows of what happened. It never gets too heavy that it becomes too hard to watch and also never becomes too silly while having many excellent moments of comedy throughout.

Arriving after its rapturous Sundance premiere, record breaking acquisition with Fox Searchlight, strong (though waning) Oscar buzz, and plenty of controversy with the director’s past actions and current statements, Nate Parker’s “The Birth of a Nation” FINALLY opens in theaters across the country this weekend! It takes place in a familiar antebellum South for this pre-Civil War era, “The Birth of a Nation” follows Nat Turner (Nate Parker), a literate slave and preacher, whose financially struggling owner, Samuel Turner (Armie Hammer), accepts an offer to use Nat’s preaching to subdue unruly slaves by reading pro-slavery scripture passages. As Mr. Turner confronts numerous act of torture (some even against himself and his loved one), Nat organizes a brutal uprising motivated to be a free people.

This new “Blair Witch” movie is basically a mainstream remake of the first film with just a few references to even make it a sequel. By mainstream I mean bland, predictable, disposable characters and jump scares galore. It really does feel like a betrayal to actually see the Blair Witch herself onscreen. No real additions to the formula, a few interesting ideas that could have been interesting, but none actually used. Still it mostly is a slick, well-produced film so I think that's what barely keeps it from being offensively bad. I give it 2 stars out of 5.

I was tempted to declare “Yoga Hosers” as Kevin Smith’s worst film, but then I remembered that “Cop Out” still exists.

But it’s CLOSE, very very close and unlike “Cop Out” this is all Kevin Smith… no jerky Bruce Willis to blame.

This film adaptation can't live up to the book but then again how could it? However that being said the first half of the film is nearly perfect. However in the second half after they've run out of parts of the book to adapt and it fully becomes the film's story; it loses a lot of interest. People who have not read the book will probably not be as bothered by the fans. Even though it is flawed it's clear the filmmakers loved the book and tried very hard to capture it and for the MOST part they did. I give it 4 out of 5 stars on a string.

The nuns in “The Innocents” are going through a crisis of faith. Based on true events and set during post-World War II Poland, “The Innocents” is about Mathilde (Lou de Laâge) a nurse from the French Red Cross who comes to the aid of several pregnant Benedictine nuns. Traumatized by the brutality of the Soviet soldiers and fearful for the recently established anti-Catholic government, she helps the grief stricken nuns medically and emotionally. There is a cultural conflict among Mathilde and the covenant since she doesn’t acknowledge faith. She grew up in an agnostic household. However, she is able to put her beliefs to side in order to achieve the greater good of caring for the nuns. The sister’s struggle with the concept of “God’s Will” with complex characters navigating a tough reality.

"The Secret Life of Pets" is universal family entertainment although it didn't fully meet my expectations. The animation is rich, the characters are engaging, and the voice work is spot on for most. It's a film worth seeing although I think it didn't live up to its creative potential.
