The movie is slated to open in theaters May 25, 2018. It will be written by, , the writer of "The Empire Strike Back" with directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller ("21 Jump Street, The Lego Movie") already on board.  This is an accomplishment in itself because the Hollywood Reporter confirmed that 2500 actors auditioned for the role. Dave Franco, Miles Teller, and Scott Eastwood (Clint's son) were rumored to be strongly considered.
