Its not so much a matter of the Infinity Stones changing the Marvel Cinematic Universe as this is the plot device that shapes it, much like the One Ring in Lord of the Rings. There's a lot of stuff going on, but if all revolving around this one thing. Fortunately in this case, we have multiple components which are incredibly powerful and have different attributes that different stories can be built around. Its not a matter of "Oh they're going to be dealing with the Death Star... again"; its "oh, now this component is being revealed, and this thing is getting closer to coming to a head". Marvel's done a great job of both teasing this out and keeping fan excited for it. Thanos, as a character, was the first to get me excited and curious about continuity, and him as the overall big bad is a perfect choice.

The featurette was nice and not I can just point people to it instead of having to explain the Infinity Stones to my non-comic reading friends and family.
