First Trailer for Don Cheadle’s Miles Davis Biopic Arrives

Don Cheadle and Ewan McGregor star in this trailer for “Miles Ahead.”

We’ve heard the news regarding Don Cheadle’s preparation for getting into the role of Miles Davis and now we get to see if that preparation paid off. In this trailer for “Miles Ahead” we see a more complex and darker side of the famous Jazz musician. Accompanied by Ewan McGregor playing Rolling Stone writer Dave Brill, we get a writer’s perspective on the story of Miles Davis as well. Take a look at the trailer below.

I know the music of Miles Davis but do not know much more beyond that. This trailer for “Miles Ahead” shows a side of the musician that neither I nor some other fans were aware of. With a violent streak involving fists and firearms, the perplexity of this film’s Miles Davis is far beyond public perception. But of course once the film releases nationwide, we will have to compare the facts and Hollywood fiction.

I will say that Don Cheadle consistently hits the mark with his roles. Even from the trailer I can see the preparation put into this role from his notable vocal diction to the fluid motions of playing his instrument.

But while the film is about a musician, this trailer doesn’t show us much regarding the music or accompanied soundtrack for “Miles Ahead.” The focus of this film may surround milestone moments in Miles’ life rather than focusing on his music career as a whole. Even the character’s perspective on his music seems to take the backseat in comparison to his perspectives on life. Fans looking for a saturation of nostalgic Jazz music may not get their fix.

“Miles Ahead” hits theaters April 1, 2016 and is rated R.
