Dane Dehaan stars alongside “Twilight” star Robert Pattinson in this trailer for “Life.” Dane Dehaan plays the iconic American actor James Dean and the film seems to cover the beginnings of his career as an actor and his rise to fame as depicted by LIFE Magazine. Take a look at the trailer below.
In addition to Pattinson and Dehaan, “LIFE” also stars Joel Edgerton and Ben Kingsley. The film revolves around James Dean (Dehaan) and a photographer for LIFE Magazine Dennis Stock (Pattinson). Throughout the trailer we get a glimpse of what to expect from James Dean’s rebellious behavior and the iconic photographs of him courtesy of LIFE Magazine. From his reservations regarding his fame intruding upon his life to his untamed nature in general, Dane Dehaan seems to be exhibiting a spectrum of James Dean characteristics. How his performance will be has yet to be seen.
I’m usually not a superficial critic when it comes to casting but I admit that Dane Dehaan as James Dean is a bit distracting. He may give a phenomenal performance that hides his lack of resemblance to James Dean, but it was difficult for me to see Dehaan in the role in this trailer. James Dean has a very distinctive look and is an iconic figure in cinema. Even with the makeup, clothing, and hairstyle, it seems to be a stretch to have Dane Dehaan in the role. In fact, I think Robert Pattinson would have been better suited as James Dean and Dane Dehaan as Dennis Stock. But I may eat my words after I see Dane Dehaan’s performance as James Dean which could be amazing.
