How Snoke Could Be Skywalker Related in ‘Star Wars Force Awakens’

Spoiler Alert! Do not read further if you haven’t seen “The Force Awakens!”

There are a ton of theories going around about “Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens.” While some seem obvious, others are a bit of a stretch. The theory that I have revolves around Supreme Leader Snoke and is also dependent upon another theory that has been circulating. This may or may not be true but if you follow along with me, you’ll see how this theory could not only make sense, but provide a seamless connection between all other “Star Wars” films.

So let me present the theory and then I’ll take you through how I came to this conclusion….

Supreme Leader Snoke is the great grandfather of Kylo Ren!

I know all of you are ready to debate and I encourage it. But before we get to the debating in the comments, let’s go through the theories that support my theory.

Supreme Leader Snoke is Darth Plagueis the Wise

Darth-Plagueis-Novel

Darth Plagueis Novel (no longer canon)

This theory has a lot of evidence to back it up despite the fact that JJ Abrams himself denied it. But just because J.J. Abrams denies this theory it doesn’t mean it’s not true. If you remember, Abrams also denied that Benedict Cumberbatch was Khan in “Star Trek Into Darkness” and what happened there? J.J. Abrams attempted to hide Cumberbatch’s character behind a different name but in the end he reveals himself to also be known as Khan.

Outside of the denial, there are many facts that point to this. Darth Plagueis was said to have found a way to manipulate the force to beat death. While Palpatine claims to have killed his master (Plagueis) in “Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith,” that death could have easily been faked if he had this unique ability. This is said to supposedly explain the scar on Snoke’s head.

But while the information above wouldn’t have the evidence to make it more than speculation, the score of the film may have unraveled the mystery. If you listen to the score from “Revenge of the Sith” played during Palpatine’s story of Plagueis, then listen to the score played during the scene with Snoke, they’re practically identical.

The Guardian claims that they don’t hear the similarities but I think it’s impossible not to hear them. If you listen below to the two songs, I think you will hear the uncanny resemblance as well.

“The Tragedy of Darth Plagueis”

“Snoke’s Theme”

Keep in mind that these are two different songs at two different lengths. They also accompany scenes that are at different lengths so the comparisons can’t be exact, but they both share that dark, ominous hum in the background.

While there are those that refute the claims that Snoke is Plagueis, the story would fit well into the theme of the films.

Darth Plagueis Influenced the Force to Create Anakin aka Darth Vader

This theory has been going around for awhile and it’s another theory that actually holds some water. In “Revenge of the Sith” Darth Plagueis was first mentioned as a Sith lord with vast knowledge of the force. He was so knowledgeable that he was said to be able to manipulate the midichlorians (source of the force) to “create life.” Watch the scene from “Revenge of the Sith” below.

This scene is particularly interesting because Anakin Skywalker aka Darth Vader was created from the force itself. Anakin’s mother Shmi said there was no father but what if there was a creator? Palpatine’s eyes move up to Anakin in the scene above when he mentions Plagueis’ ability to “create life.” It’s almost as if Palpatine was insinuating that Plagueis had something to do with Anakin’s creation.

How These Theories Make Snoke the Great Grandfather of Kylo Ren

A similar family reveal like in Empire

Let’s say that both of these theories above are true. If Supreme Leader Snoke is in fact Darth Plagueis the Wise and Plagueis created Anakin, then Plagueis would be half of the equation that created Anakin Skywalker (his mother Shmi being the other half).

Since Kylo Ren is the son of Leia Organa Skywalker and her father is Anakin Skywalker, Plagueis (Snoke?) would be the unofficial grandfather of Kylo Ren. This would partially explain Snokes’ interest in Kylo Ren.

If this next trilogy of films plans to continue the theme of “family” that has been present throughout the prequels and original trilogy, this theory could be more than plausible. “The Force Awakens” followed a very similar pattern to “A New Hope.” If Snoke were revealed to be Plagueis and in turn the source of Darth Vader’s creation, the surprise would be very similar to the “Empire Strikes Back” reveal of Vader being Anakin Skywalker.

In turn, if Rey does end up being a Skywalker in some way, this would also mean that Snoke could be related to her as well. If that is true then “Star Wars Episode VIII” will be similarly mirroring “Empire Strikes Back” like “The Force Awakens” mirrored “A New Hope.”

How Likely is This Theory?

Revenge-of-the-Sith-Anakin-Palpatine

The certainty of any theory is always questionable. The foundations of this theory could be debunked if the theories about Plagueis being Snoke and creating Anakin do not hold water. Some may say that Disney may want to distance themselves from the prequels but remember, the prequels are still canon and they were indirectly referenced in “The Force Awakens.” More recently it was announced that Hayden Christensen almost returned as Anakin and Ewan McGregor did indeed lend his voice to the film.

Is this theory a bit complex? Sure it is. But if “Episode VIII” is going to carry a big reveal like “Empire Strikes Back,” they’ll need something less obvious than Kylo Ren and Rey being related. In the age of the internet and fans congregating to speculate, complexity would be a welcomed attribute of the next film. It doesn’t necessarily mean that the Plagueis theory is true but as a fan, it’s always fun to come up with these types of theories.

What are your thoughts on this theory?
