Fox’s X-Men TV Series is Moving Forward!

It sounds like an X-Men television series is happening!

Maybe it’s the success of Marvel’s television series that got things moving for Fox, but regardless, it seems like an X-Men TV series is in the works. According to TVLine.com, Fox has been working with Marvel to make this happen and Fox network Co-chairman Dana Walden confirmed the negotiations.

“We’re in negotiations with Marvel,” Walden told reporters at the Television Critics Association summer press tour in Beverly Hills. “We’re hopeful that we’ll be able to announce something soon. It’s something we’re definitely pursuing.”

For those curious about the potential conflict, Walden also had a few things to say regarding the collaboration. In particular, he outlined the use of characters and the absence of characters related to both ABC and Disney.

“The characters from the X-Men franchise are with Fox on the feature [films] side, so we won’t be including Marvel characters that are at ABC with Disney.”

A live action X-Men series sounds like a lot of fun and also has a lot of potential. While there was an attempt to create an X-Men series 20+ years ago (“Generation X”), it was not during this renaissance period for superhero media. If a show like “Agents of SHIELD” can find success highlighting a few tertiary characters, I’m sure that an X-Men TV series can find success with the plethora of team members on their “B-squad.”

I’m sure that we may get the occasional cameo from someone like Patrick Stewart or some other side characters, but I definitely think that this series has potential if Fox is smart. If Fox decides to bring focus to lesser known but fan favorite characters, I’m sure that they will have a hit. There’s even the possibility of bringing in smaller side characters from films like “X-Men: Days of Future Past.” How awesome would it be to have Bishop or Warpath further explored in a TV series? I know I would watch that!

How about you? What do you think of a live action X-Men TV series?

If it were about fifteen years ago, I’d be bouncing off the walls. X-Men is a past fandom for me and one I look back fondly on, but I just can’t muster much excitement over the new material.
