Fox is creating their own X-Men cinematic universe and “Deadpool” may be the first solo film to kick things off.

“X-Men: Apocalypse” Writer Simon Kinberg seems to be open for discussion as of late. Today it’s been revealed that there are bigger plans for “Deadpool” than we originally had expected. While fans may be excited and intrigued for a solo “Deadpool” film, the lower budget and the release date of February 2016 has put a bit of a damper on the expectations of the film. Thanks to Simon Kinberg’s words, we can be a little bit more optimistic about the significance of the film as it seems to be a part of a much bigger picture.

“There’s definitely a sort of overall plan that we’ve all been talking about for the X-Men universe now,” Kinberg explained, “and Deadpool obviously fits into that. So yeah, I guess I would say it’s part of certainly an overall timeline and thought process that goes into these films, some of which is inspired by the comics and some which is inspired by seeing what Marvel’s done with telling a larger tapestry and linking all those movies together, even as they stand independently as well. The same kind of thought is going to go into these X-Men movies at Fox.”

What some may not be aware of is the connection that may be already established according to an interview with Lauren Shuler Donner back in May. She confirmed that “Deadpool” already had their attention followed by X-Force and then Gambit. She mentioned that X-Force interested them because it allowed them to be more “gritty” which would fall directly in line with “Deadpool.”

Based on that interview, here is my prediction:

If “Deadpool” is going to find his way into the X-Men universe then I think that bridge between them will include some sort of introduction to X-Force given Deadpool’s relationship to X-Force. With “X-Men: Apocalypse” coming, I also think that there is a good chance that there will (at least) be some mention of Cable (leader of X-Force) given that Cable and Apocalypse have been intertwined in many stories throughout the comic book universe.

If this is how they are planning to kick off the X-Men cinematic universe then I greatly applaud them. This would open up so many possibilities for storylines and be the perfect way to introduce these other characters with the common ground of their common enemy Apocalypse. Introducing Deadpool would not make as much sense as introducing Cable and/or X-Force in “X-Men: Apocalypse” but after introductions are made for the team, it’s a perfect segway into “Deadpool.”

While studios usually have their own ideas, as a comic book fan of logical continuity, I think this prediction makes perfect sense.

What do you think of my prediction?
